Featured Farm: Christians United Outreach Center of Lee County | Sanford, North Carolina

At CHRISTIANS UNITED OUTREACH CENTER OF LEE COUNTY, fresh food is being grown right where it is distributed.

Since 2022, four volunteers have been operating four Flex Farm units as part of the organization’s work to provide food to neighbors in need. By rotating harvests across the farms, the team is able to harvest approximately every two weeks, growing multiple varieties of lettuce along with herbs including cilantro, dill, and basil.

In the last year, the food pantry distributed 766,484 pounds of food, including approximately 1,300 pounds grown fresh on-site with Fork Farms hydroponics.

It is a powerful example of how onsite food production can complement an established hunger-relief program and bring a source of fresh produce even closer to the people it serves.
