A new shipping container sits outside the Regina Food Bank, but inside is something unusual: Regina’s first modular indoor farm.

It’s designed to grow and supply fresh lettuce to people in need year-round — especially through the city’s harsh winters.

The 40-foot hydroponic unit, manufactured by Ottawa-based company Growcer, can produce between 600 and 800 heads of lettuce each week. The food bank says the lettuce will be distributed to clients through its hamper program and other food assistance services.
